Selborne
was created in 1985 when a well known local sugar farmer and dairy
farmer, Denis Barker, purchased Selborne Park in 1979 which was
used as his family home and to run his pedigree Jersey cattle herd.
In 1985, following a visit to the United States and Canada, Denis
decided to build a golf course on the property. Together with a
handful of local friends who offered support and advice, Denis designed
and built the beautiful 18 hole golf course with his younger son,
Gary and Selborne duly became South Africa's first golf estate.
In many ways, the privately owned and built Selborne golf course,
which was voted 7th best in SA in its 3rd year, was the catalyst
for what has become a booming "golf estate industry".
Today some call it the most spectacular 18 holes in southern Africa. Wild coastal forest frames a superbly manicured course where the only disturbance may be one of nature’s creatures. Testiment to the high standing it has within the golfing community is the number of high profile events which are played on the course during the year. These include The Vodacom Origins of Golf tournament on the Sunshine Winter tour, the KZN Strokeplay and the Golf Digest Subscriber Challenge. VISITORS POLICY Visitors are most welcome to Selborne and may have full use of the club facilities whilst they are here to play golf. BOOKINGS It is advisable to book your golf to avoid disappointment. All visitors are required to provide the full necessary particulars when making a booking. TEE-TIMES Our members competitions are on a Thursday & Saturday and we will therefore run off two tees on those days. SUMMER: 06h30 - 14h00 WINTER: 7h00 - 13h00 FACILITIES Selborne offers its guests the finest golfing experience, right from your arrival on the estate one is left in no doubt regarding the high standards of sophisticated elegance THE CLUBHOUSE The clubhouse at Selborne is elegantly appointed and has both a bar and lounge area. Enjoy a relaxing meal on the terrace overlooking the course or indulge in the latest sports event in the lounge on the big screen. DRESS CODE With it becoming increasingly difficult to apply a strict conformity in dress code the management of Selborne Country Club greatly appreciates your help in maintaining this high standard. LIFESTYLE SHOP Selborne has a very modern Pro Shop which offers a wide variety of the latest golf apparel and golf accessories as well as a unique selection of gift items. HALFWAY HOUSE The Halfway House is situated close to the main clubhouse and offers golfers a quick and tasty selection of light meals and refreshments. LOCKER ROOMS Both the ladies and gents locker rooms are fited with individual lockable cupboards to enable you to safely store your personal possessions whilst out on the course.
